Studies in Debate and Oratory

Editorial Policies

Submission Types:

We plan to accept traditional original research (8-10,000 words), research briefs and scholarly reviews (4-5000 words), book reviews (2-3000 words), and special issue and/or forum proposals (1000-1500 words). We would be happy to contemplate other options as well to drive submissions. Our experience with scholars who focus on oratory and debate at their institutions is that their time-constrained lives make shorter submissions much easier to complete and, thus, more likely, hence our inclusion of research briefs and scholarly reviews on key issues in debate, oratory, and related fields as an option above.

Instructions for Authors:

We accept any scholarship on oratory and debate that fits the basic submission types above and that has not been previously published. We will follow APA style for all citations and related formatting questions. Word counts will be treated as guidelines rather than hard and fast rules. Given that we will operate fully online, we can accept much longer manuscripts than a print journal and will. If high quality material that is well over the guidelines above is submitted and accepted, we will publish it.

Review style:

Aside from special issues which will be subject to robust editorial review, all submissions will undergo anonymous peer review by at least two reviewers identified by the editors based on their areas of specialization.
